We were successful in passing our annual review with high marks, doubling our user population and quadrupling our computing resources available to the users. I was also in charge of the Windows and Mac infrastructure along with eMail and other central services (AFS file system, etc.). We operated the clusters, provided the custom software needed to run the users software, provided end user support and maintained all the equipment and software for both central clusters and workgroup clusters out in the field. One of my major accomplishments was the selection of RedHat Linux as a supported operating system in 1998. We were one of the first commercial sites supporting RedHat Linux and were instrumental in their early marketing. Another was the stabilization of the AFS file system which had been suffering from a ~70% uptime and slow file access. My team boosted the uptime to 99.9%+ and improved file access time by 50X within 1 year.
