I am a researcher, writer and editor and have conducted research and written extensively on women’s representation and participation in political decision-making and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) across the SADC region. I have been responsible for conducting research and co-authoring the first African Women’s Political Participation (WPP) Barometer, and several chapters of the SADC Gender Protocol Barometer on menstrual health, family planning and maternal health, and climate justice. As a gender specialist, I have provided technical assistance on gender integration to organisations, including mainstream NGOs and Foundations, such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and WaterAid Southern Africa and West Africa Regional Offices. Training and facilitation have formed a core part of the work I do. Using research to develop bespoke training material for local governments, women’s rights and mainstream development organisations on gender and social inclusion.

In 2018 I was main researcher on a research project on refugee and asylum seeker rights in South Africa, the findings of which informed recommendations to the South African government, campaigning and advocacy. Areas related to women's rights included addressing gender-based violence in universities; advocating for access to maternal health, specifically antenatal care and campaigning for access to safe and legal abortion, as well as campaigning for the decriminalisation of sex work in South Africa.
