Amoyo Performing Arts FoundationChief Executive Officer
Mar. 2015Hout Bay, Cape Town, South AfricaLaunched in March 2015, we are a non-profit organisation offering all-round performing arts and extramural programmes to the children of impoverished families in our communities. AMOYO means “spirit of appreciation” - appreciating everything and everyone. We offer phenomenal classes in African, Ballet, Contemporary, Gumboot, and Pantsula dancing, as well as Djembe Drumming, Stick and Cans rhythm and music, singing, Musical Theatre, and Speech and Drama. We would love to include Hip-hop, Tap, and Modern dancing. Our holistic approach of combining the arts with a focus on 'appreciation and gratitude' offers a unique platform for building valuable life skills such as good self-esteem, self-respect, and respect for others in a nurturing environment. This is sorely needed in these children's lives, who mostly live in townships rife with gangs, drugs, alcohol, and violence - in and outside their homes. As a founding member and the CEO, I dedicate myself to many tasks, which include those normally executed by Directors, Project Managers, Artistic Directors, and Fundraisers. I even jump in as a teacher whenever needed. I love every element of my involvement at Amoyo. Alongside this, I also pride myself in how closely I work with and mentor the senior students, form relationships with family and community members, and strengthen the bond between Amoyo and the community. I am exceptionally proud that Amoyo has already received a Ministerial Award of Excellence. Funding and sponsorship are welcomed. Link to Website : https://amoyo.org/
