a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Systems
Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West
Point, NY and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant
of Aviation in May 1990. He also holds a Master of Business
Administration (MBA) degree from Kansas State University in
Manhattan, KS, as well as a Master of Divinity degree from
Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, VA. In
addition, he is a certified Pastry Chef and is a graduate of the
Pastry Arts Degree Program at the Auguste Escoffier School of
Culinary Arts in Boulder, CO.
His military education includes the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Initial Entry Rotary Wing
Course, the Maintenance Officer/Maintenance Test Pilot Course, the Combined Logistics Officer
Advanced Course, the U.S. Army Command and Staff Services School, and the Command and
General Staff College.
Mr. Zurmuehlen has held a variety of operational aviation leadership assignments as a
maintenance test pilot, platoon leader, company commander, and battalion executive officer. After
transitioning to the Army Acquisition Corps, Mr. Zurmuehlen held various leadership
assignments in aviation and missile defense efforts across program management and testing
disciplines. He deployed to Iraq in 2007-2008 and served as the Chief of Staff for the Joint
Contracting Command and additionally served as an Operations Advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of
Finance.
