Jul. 2009 - May. 2010Managed the day to day operations of seven divisions with over 300 employees: Corporate, Personal Income, Sales and Use Tax, Property Tax, Taxpayer Assistance, and Policy Analysis and Research Divisions. Administered a $14 million dollar budget. Served on the Department's senior leadership team. Represented the Department as the primary contact with Department of Commerce on economic development issues. Served on the Department's Information Technology Steering Committee overseeing a complete IT overhaul. Developed and managed legislative recommendations for the agency.

Represented the Secretary of Revenue before legislators and other state officials. Coordinated and responded to constituent requests, including those from members of the North Carolina General Assembly. Successfully advocated for implementation of a corporate tax rule that increased tax compliance in North Carolina which resulted in a 400 million dollar increase in corporate tax collections in 2009.

Lobbied members of the General Assembly, Congress, Council of State, and State Board of Education on education issues affecting NCAE members. Coordinated NCAE endorsement process for Congressional, Council of State, Legislative, and Judicial candidates during 2004 Election cycle. Ensured effective communication with NCAE members regarding NCAE endorsed candidates. Oversaw political activities and PAC donations for endorsed candidates and maintain compliance with state and federal campaign finance regulations. Served as liaison between the North Carolina Congressional delegation and the National Education Association. Monitored legislative and policy developments on issues of concern to NCAE members. Produced and edited press releases for the Government Relations Department.
