Self.Global HR & Workforce Transformation Executive
Jan. 1998South Africa, JohannesburgErich Katzke is a globally recognised Human Capital and Workforce Transformation executive whose career spans more than three decades across the most demanding sectors and geographies in mining, heavy industry, and national workforce development. His leadership has been instrumental in designing and implementing large-scale human capital systems, learning architectures, and talent localisation strategies that have shaped organisational capacity across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
As a strategic HR leader and Learning & Development systems architect, Erich has held senior executive positions with organisations including the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in Saudi Arabia, ArcelorMittal across Liberia, Luxembourg, and Canada, SD Steel in Sierra Leone, Glencore, Anglo Platinum, and Impala Platinum. In each capacity, he has driven institutional transformation—establishing governance frameworks, commercialising training academies, and aligning workforce development with long-term national and corporate strategies, including Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
His expertise extends beyond conventional HR practice into the architecture of community and technical training centres, the development of employability frameworks in resource-dependent regions, and the design of succession planning systems for complex, multicultural, and high-risk operating environments. Erich's approach integrates executive advisory with hands-on systems design—bridging the gap between board-level strategy and operational delivery.
Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated the capacity to build sustainable talent ecosystems where none previously existed, turning workforce challenges into competitive advantage for the organisations and communities he serves.
