Jan. 2007 - Mar. 2013Portland, ORA research assistant at OHSU where I gained extensive experience supporting the research goals of my PI, Dr. Ann Hill, and post-docs. I have was lucky enough to be involved in several national collaborative clinical research studies including MrOS (CMV in male osteoporosis), a collaboration with Kaiser Permanente investigating immunosenescence in the elderly, and most recently a study looking at breast cancer treatment related fatigue, as well as a study into biomarkers involved in fibromyalgia. Experience : -Clinical research study participant visits,including home visits, and off-site clinic visits -Phlebotomy -Administering study participant surveys -Recruitment and scheduling study participants -Facilitating and ensuring informed consent of study participants -Experimental tasks associated with processing of human samples. This includes isolating cells from blood and other tissues, freezing and thawing cells and cell culture. -Experimental tasks associated with flow cytometry, including: antibody staining, flow cytometry and data acquisition. -Data analysis, careful record-keeping, compilation, analysis and reporting of data. -Microscopy -Tissue culture, virus preps -Mouse colony organization and recording -Annual review and modifications of IACUC, IBC and IRB protocols as needed -Ensuring ongoing lab compliance with institutional safety standards and policies -Maintenance and service scheduling for lab equipment -Management of cold storage organization system (FreezerPro) -Shipping -Ordering supplies and reagents (Oracle systems) -Contact with sales representatives for lab equipment and reagents -Monitoring science journals for relevant research literature
