Work Background
Client Relationship Director - Transition
QA LtdClient Relationship Director - Transition
Jan. 2023 - Dec. 2023London, England, United KingdomEngaged by QA to support the successful transition between two major Government learning contracts for the primary QA client, my role was to support the smooth integration between the two multi-year £200M+ learning and development contracts. This included retraining members of staff of both QA and the client, hands on development and implementation of new standard operating procedures, and reintegration of a highly complex and evolving working methodology. The project was successfully completed within 12 months with my work being singled out for two company awards, and in so doing I was also selected by QA to speak at a NATO Training Conference in Athens, Greece.
National Afghan Aid Coordinator
VCS Emergencies PartnershipNational Afghan Aid Coordinator
Sep. 2021 - May. 2022United KingdomI undertook to solve the urgent surplus donations challenge throughout the UK for donations made for the Afghan people evacuated as part of Op ARAP. Within nine weeks from a standing start and with a zero budget I successfully coordinated almost 50 multiple tri-sector partners to donate what was needed including the use of a large Amazon warehouse in the Midlands where I established a fully operational central distribution hub from which aid appeals throughout the UK could be immediately addressed with the aim that the model that I created could be utilised for any future crisis scenario. In so doing, I prioritised and solved urgent and simultaneous donations related problems on a national scale, liaised with multiple stake holders to develop clear lines of communication between the private, public and voluntary sectors, directly saved an estimated £4M worth of donations from being misappropriated, and I engaged with the voluntary and community sector community to reinforce the partnership aspect of the project within an often difficult and sensitive task with limited end goal visibility demonstrating that there is nothing that a can-do attitude and a keen sense of humour cannot overcome.
Interim Managing Director / Business Development Director
POSITIVE SPARKS MARKETING LTDInterim Managing Director / Business Development Director
Sep. 2020 - Aug. 2021United KingdomPositive Sparks is a digital marketing company specialising in online advertising and conversion rate optimisation. During an intensive period of growth I was asked to provide strategic insight in all aspects of the company including advising and supporting the acquisition of new talent within the business, and providing significant input to client retention and budgetary decisions which enabled the company owner to focus attention on delivering technical solutions at pace and exploring new technology to augment the company services. During my tenure I also took on responsibility for creating and developing the sales pipeline, introducing a CRM to the company to enable efficient tracking of all sales leads, and as part of this growth phase I grew the company turnover by over 160% within 8 months building a global client base in diverse sectors including cosmetics, transportation, furniture, health and wellbeing services, subscription based services, and early stage education products. The company is now well placed to consolidate on this growth phase, with key staff appointed to provide ongoing support in key roles.
Logistics Officer
Royal Fleet AuxiliaryLogistics Officer
Jun. 2019 - Oct. 2020WorldwideTo fulfil a lifelong ambition, and to challenge myself to do something outside my comfort zone to refresh my thinking, I took on the challenge of repeating military basic training 33 years after I first completed it, graduating from Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth in 2019 as a Third Officer (Logistics) within the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, the logistics wing of the Royal Navy. This seagoing role included practical hands-on management of all logistics departments on board RFA vessels including catering and hotel services, logistics warehouse management, maritime administration, financial budgetary control, and medical department management to ensure operational requirements were consistently upheld to an exemplary standard within budget, within fixed deadlines, and within highly dynamic environments.

UnlockingPotentialProgramme Manager / Senior Business Support Coach
Jan. 2017 - Oct. 2018CornwallI was invited to develop and lead a new £5M ERDF funded programme of business support delivered by Unlocking Potential, part of The Cornwall College Group, working in partnership with the University of Exeter. My role included planning and developing the programme of support, training the field based team of business development managers, writing reports to the funding body, and acting as a senior liaison with regional and national bodies to support the programme integration. I also had a hands-on role with a diverse client portfolio of well-known regional companies, providing direct support for their growth plans and introducing supportive programme elements where appropriate. The role included in-depth client business analysis and diagnostic assessment, growth mapping, and coaching and mentoring in support of their strategic plans. During my tenure the Future Focus project supported almost 1500 businesses throughout the region to make innovation led changes to their businesses, and the project was so successful that the ERDF funded a second tranche of funding in 2019 to expand the support even further.
Head of Communications
The Ulysses TrustHead of Communications
Jan. 2016 - Aug. 2017United KingdomAs Head of Communications, I was responsible for all Trust marketing and promotion, including print and digital publications, event management, and presentations to senior committees and audiences throughout the UK. This work led to the Trust expanding its visibility more than four-fold within two years, thus securing a sustainable future for the Ulysses Trust and enabling the charity to expand significantly beyond its 25th anniversary year. I was also responsible for re-engaging support for a further 5 year period from the Trust's Patron, HRH Prince Charles, and as part of this I conceived and launched the Prince of Wales's Annual Expeditionary Awards for the Cadet and Voluntary Reserve Forces.
Founder
Uzimatech LtdFounder
Jun. 2014 - Aug. 2020United KingdomI invented a wearable technology device for the humanitarian sector, providing automated safeguarding of at-risk individuals living and working within hazardous environments. I successfully took the company through a pre-Alpha funding round enabling it to successfully develop an innovative safety product that monitored the location, speed and direction of travel of an individual and alerted them to the presence of danger within any mappable environment. One specific application for this was to alert children in former conflict zones to the presence of minefields to reduce legacy casualties. As a result of this, I won the Regional Finals of the Pitch at the Palace competition in 2017 and I attended Buckingham Palace the following year. I was invited to present the concept as part of a UK trade delegation to Finland in 2018. The COVID crisis dramatically altered the investment landscape, and promised further funds sadly never materialised. The decision was reluctantly made to close the company in August 2020.
Development Director
The Ulysses TrustDevelopment Director
Jan. 2013 - Dec. 2015United KingdomThe Ulysses Trust is a youth charity supporting participation in challenging expeditions and adventurous activities involving members of the Volunteer Reserve Forces and Cadet Forces of the UK. I raised almost £1M in funding within three years, with ongoing pledged revenue of a further £750K over the subsequent three year period. This was achieved from a standing start, and on a 0.6FTE basis, by conceiving of and launching a new initiative called Cadet Sunrise aimed at providing enhanced support to young people within disadvantaged areas to help them to avoid becoming statistics of crime, drugs, and gang violence. My project also involved undertaking the first independent national survey of Cadet units examining opinions about the value of adventurous training both to the individual and to the Cadet organisation as a whole. This is now being used as a steering document by senior military staff to inform the ongoing Cadet recruitment policy.

Founder & Managing Director
Slightly DifferentFounder & Managing Director
Sep. 2000 - Dec. 2012United KingdomMy leadership of this company and my ability to build a high quality sales pipeline from a standing start led to the company growing from start up to become one of the largest Internet development agencies in the South West of England, with a broad range of regional and national clients. Clients were cross-sector including the UK Government, the Liberal Democrat Party, PwC, Daily Telegraph, SSAFA, BMW, Pacific World, A&P, London Irish RFC, and the Eden Project. The company's work won numerous leading industry awards including a BIMA, a DMA Gold, and a UK Government Cybrarian Award. I was also selected to be the face of the Government's Business In You campaign to encourage other people to start their own companies, working alongside actor Mark Strong to promote the campaign. My overriding management principle was that the company should have a strong philanthropic focus and as a result we supported numerous charities and organisations on an ongoing basis. This led to my being selected from a global field to receive the inaugural award in 2012 of the United Nations' Pioneer Award for Strategic Corporate Philanthropy, and shortly afterwards I stepped down from the helm and sold the company as part of an MBO.
