English Teacher and Community Assistant Volunteer
Lattitude Global Volunteering UKEnglish Teacher and Community Assistant Volunteer
Aug. 2013 - Jan. 2014Cuenca, EcuadorEnglish Teacher, Miguel Merchan High School, Cuenca, Ecuador: September 2013 – January 2014 Through the volunteer organisation Lattitude, I worked voluntarily as an English Teacher in a high school (Cuenca, Ecuador). I was responsible for independently planning and teaching English lessons to students of ages 13 to 20, all with a very basic knowledge of English. It was initially very daunting, but became a highly rewarding experience from which I gained a lot of confidence and received excellent feedback from fellow teachers and students. In the afternoons I worked voluntarily as a care assistant, responsible for teaching English, helping with homework, playing games and sports and looking after young street children. The experience made me quickly grow in maturity as I had to be a role model for some very vulnerable children, but above all it was a lot of fun.
