Girimun ArchitectsJunior Architect (Intern)
Jul. 2015 - Sep. 2015Hong KongWorked at an established architect firm in Hong Kong. The firm had a very open plan work space and so it provided an ideal environment for learning. I was working on a full- scale renovation of the Grand Gateway 66 shopping complex in Shanghai. Due to its scale, there were 6 contractors working on the project, an engineering firm, transportation consultant (Arup), executive architect, local Chinese architect, the clients own team and the design architect (Us). This meant that organization was key as being the design architects it was our duty to compile all the data, which meant we constantly had to deal with correspondence from all the different firms. The complex consisted of 2 office towers, a 1.1 million square feet retail and entertainment space and the largest serviced apartment complex in Shanghai. My tasks were: working alongside the Head Architect; aiding with design decisions; updating the central model; dealing with client requests; and aiding the rest of team with CAD/Sketchup work. Among other things, it also allowed me to further develop my CAD and Sketchup Skills to the extent that they are now becoming as useful a tool for artistic expression as a pencil or a paintbrush. Overall it was a very rewarding experience that gave me an insight into projects of this scale.
