Through education, support, and dialogue, we were able to work together to find solutions and improve their situation. In addition, I was also able to co-teach several courses, refer to outside services, and participate in outreach opportunities.

Through home visits, classroom settings, and briefings, I was able to provide education and mental health support to parent(s) of the Misawa Air Force Base who were expecting and/or have a child up to age three. Working with the families, I was able to assess, stop, and/or prevent domestic violence and child abuse/neglect. Through my role, I also applied assessment tools for mental health and medical needs, outsourcing as needed and as possible. Through those opportunities, I implemented collaboration with nurses, physicians, psychologists and social workers in OB/GYN, Labor and Delivery, Pediatrics, WIC, Family Advocacy, Mental Health, and additional services to advocate in patient care. While in my position, I redesigned the curriculum for Baby Care Basics, provided educational opportunities and introduced services through the radio, display booths, job-site visitations, and briefings. I also compiled and worked with a team member to complete and disseminate a quarterly newsletter. Through committee meetings, I was able to brief base leadership on the progress of the NPSP program and work in collaboration with leadership officials to meet individual and base-wide needs and goals. In addition, through the role as Family Advocacy Nurse, I was also able to co-lead a committee to prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome where I encouraged and inspired the compilation and production of radio and TV ads (responding to a recommendation provided by one of the committee members or guests).
