David Vogel (PhD) is Deputy Head of the Africa Research Institute at Óbuda University, Hungary. Following his university studies in security and defence policy, international relations, and political science, he earned his PhD in military science. A former military officer, he served as an analyst at the HDF Civil-Military Cooperation and Psychological Operations Centre and later as senior research fellow at the HDF Scientific Research Centre of the General Staff, focusing on the mission areas of the Hungarian Defence Force. As his last military assignment, he was deployed to the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), where he worked as the senior intelligence analyst. After returning from MINUSCA, he left the HDF to join Óbuda University’s Doctoral School on Safety and Security Sciences as Senior Research Fellow at the Africa Research Institute. There, he heads the Global South Research Group and coordinates the postgraduate Humanitarian Response Manager programme. As a humanitarian professional, he was appointed to be the founding Head of the Sahel regional office of an international humanitarian organisation in Chad. He has been lecturing at various universities, and authored numerous publications, mostly on African and Latin American topics, he often appears in the media with analysis about current security and defence issues of these regions.

Dec. 2023 - Feb. 2025N'Djamena, ChadAs Head of Office of Hungary's first humanitarian engagement in an implementing role, my job was - after establishing the physical working environment of the Office - to engage with local stakeholders from the Chadian side (government, NGOs, institutions mostly in the healthcare and education sector) as well as from the international community (UN, EU, embassies, INGOs, etc.). Based on the information from these entities, it was also my duty to launch projects primarily in the field of healthcare, education and livelyhood which have materialised in medicine donations, renovations of educational institutions, launcing educational courses (trainings and post-grad level), renovations and donations of equipements involving hospitals and health centres, donations of humanitarian equipement (food, NFI, shelter, etc.) for the Chadian refugee agency and the ministry in charge of humanitarian affairs.
