Dr. Garcia has been a transformative professional educator for 25 years in some of the most challenged schools in the Bay Area, and has dedicated his life and career to achieving educational equity for allstudents traditionally failed by our public school system. He spent 12 years as a teacher and instructional coach, and 6 years as a middle school and elementary school administrator in Oakland and Hayward. He spent two years as an Educational Consultant working across eight school districts in California and Nevada focused on the development of systems and structures to support school transformation and focused on developing equity mindsets and heartsets amongst school and district administrators. He served four years as Superintendent in the Sausalito Marin City School District where he successfully led the response to the first desegregation order in California in the past 50 years and was the first public school district to receive a health waiver to operate in person instruction, the District was recognized as a Pivotal Practice District in 2022. Passed a school bond, designed a new Elementary school, and successfully applied for the only Community School Implementation Grant in Marin, as well as successfully applied for new CSPP and CCTR funding and expanded state funded child care by 130 slots in Southern Marin, offering high quality affordable early childhood education to the Southern Marin community for the first time. He is in his second year as the Canyon Elementary School District Superintendent He has served as a member of the National TurnAround Arts Equity Committee, the Principal Leadership Institute Equity Advisory Committee, and the Alameda County Arts Integrated Principal Leadership Network. He is the former chair and a current member of the First 5 Commission in Marin County and a Board Member of Green Ninja Science. He is a San Francisco native and a graduate of Tamalpais High school in Mill Valley, UC Berkeley (B.A. & Ed.D.), and Fresno State (M.A. T.). He is a certified Beyond Diversity
