My main interest focused on neurodegeneration mechanisms, and especially in aspects of Tau protein toxicity, which is involved in a range of neurodegenerative diseases, like Parkinson's. During the course of my PhD I used transgenic nematode worms (C. elegans) expressing different Tau mutants, characterized the neuronal defects inflicted by mutant Tau, and performed high throughput screenings for pharmacological or genetic factors that can mitigate Tau toxicity.

Being part of the IMPRS program provided me the opportunity to attend frequent seminars, soft skill workshops and courses, as well as extensive training in science communication.
