I have been University Professor and Head of the Department of South-Asian and Southeast Asian Studies of Cologne University, Germany for 16 years - 8until retirement age. Before that, I worked as Assistant Professor in the South Asian Studies Programme of National University in Singapore. My main expertise is teaching and researching in languages and literatures (especially Sanskrit, Pali and Tamil). During my Singapore time I was more involved in sociological and ethnological topics which led to doing a lot of field work, especially in South India, but also in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Bali, South-Java). My main talents lie in teaching , curriculum development, guiding PhD candidates through their thesis work and preparation of exam. Refarding TEACHING : 1. I am highly experienced in language-teaching (using different formats , including audio-visual materials).Languages I can teach are German, French, Hindi, Tamil - and the Classical languages Sanskrit, Pali and also Latin. 2. I have held Seminaries and University Lectures on topics related to my field works, too, including: religions of India; Indian and Southeast Asian Literatures and Cultures (here a special focus on the very complex culture and society of Bali); history of Indian Cinema; comparative cultural studies India and Southeast Asia; urban and rural life in South Asia and Southeats Asia - and more topics in this line. 3. I have conducted 1-month summerschool with small groups of students (6 members) in India and Southeast Asia, covering different topics like religions, cultures, arts and architecture, economies and politics of the countries visited (with a special focus on agriculture and village life); other summerschools focused on immersive language intensive courses (mainly Tamil in South India). Now living in Cambodia, I can use the techniques and methods that I have learned, developped and applied during my professional life also on topics that deviate from my main focuses in order to build curricula or to teach languages that are neither
