Jan. 2018 - Apr. 2018Kiev, Ukraine• As the National Gender Expert for a regional study “Gender Representation and Empowerment in Creative and Cultural Industries in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine” implemented by PPV Knowledge Networks and commissioned and managed by the British Council Ukraine, I led the research component for Armenia. • Prepared a tailored report for Armenia in line with country priorities and developments in the creative and cultural industries, particularly looking at sectors which tend to be male-dominated, e.g. IT, design, etc. • Examined the role of gender in shaping participation and opportunities in the creative and cultural industries in Armenia. • Analysed the barriers which discourage women from pursuing careers in the creative and cultural industries and establishing cultural enterprises (social and cultural norms, perceptions of society about traditional gender roles, access to finance / childcare etc.). • Analysed the role of the creative and cultural industries in influencing broader social change including on gender and women’s empowerment. • Set out recommendations for policy-makers and leaders in the creative and cultural industries, as well as educators, to strengthen the contribution of the sector to addressing gender inequalities, by sharing best practices from across the region countries and the UK.
