I was part of a team of students that worked with employees of the City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County to improve access to social services programs by reducing obstacles for citizens. We approached our solutions through design thinking and made our recommendations very human centered. I reached out to other counties with comparable populations to see what was and wasn’t working for them. I also conducted interviews with local experts in social work to put into our final report. I got to collaborate with my team continuously to come up with the most innovative, impactful, and cost effective solutions. We presented our research and solutions to the employees we directly worked with, as well as to nearly 200 community members.
