Having identified a learning need, I have developed and regularly run an academic skills workshop for new students. This covers academic research, reading, writing, critical thinking and referencing. Many students require this refresher class to brush up on their academic skills as it may have been some time since their undergratuate studies or they may not have grasped the concepts sufficiently. Also, as the year progresses, I coach students on completing their assignments, which can cause them considerable stress. As part of the executive programme, I invite guest speakers who are experts in their fields and/or business people. They bring a different perspective and feedback from students shows that they greatly value these sessions.
