Aug. 2016 - Jul. 2018I was the senior editor of all content related to the patient website HealthCentral.com. I oversaw content creation, freelance work, and the line editing process using AP and in-house style. I collaborated with the editorial team on content development strategy with an eye on metrics and best SEO practices. In 2017, I helped edit the migration of 100,000+ pieces of content to Contentful CMS. After that, I used Contentful, Adobe Analytics, Parse.ly, SocialFlow, SEMRush, and Zendesk on a daily basis. I was lead on a massive project to medically review legacy slideshows and stories; edited hundreds of "blog-like" articles from freelance writers; oversaw the "Contributors' Guidelines" document that established consistent standards for our 50+ writers that I wrote in the fall of 2016; and created a standardized style guide for the site. I also wrote stories for the website on topics including cancer, migraine, dentistry, and patient advocacy. At the end of my full-time senior editor role at the company, I worked under contract as a freelancer (for 3 months) to finish projects, and I continue to write for the website as a health writer.

Jun. 2015 - Aug. 2016I oversaw the membership communications to the nonprofit American Society for Radiation Oncology's (ASTRO) 10,000 members, including the weekly news blast, ASTROgram, and the quarterly news magazine, ASTROnews. In my role with ASTROnews, I worked as managing editor, collaborating with the volunteer physician editorial board to create and craft content. I also managed advertising, including invoicing with an outside vendor, and worked closely with the design and production manager in the layout of the publication. I edited for AP and in-house style, coordinating multiple edits across departments. In addition, I ran the press program for the society's three peer reviewed journals. I wrote and edited press releases based on published studies. Then I posted the releases through Cision, EurekAlert!, and Newswise, as well as on the organization's website in Ektron CMS, fielding media requests for additional information and interviews. I also provided press support onsite at the society's annual medical conference. In 2015 I coordinated the onsite press program, including editing scientific press releases for the press program and overseeing radio pitches. The radio program reached more than 14.9 million people with information from prominent society physicians and nurses.

Feb. 2014 - Jun. 2015I oversaw the editorial process for EyeWorld, the monthly 75+ page official medical news magazine of the nonprofit American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), seen by 20,876 qualified subscribers. I edited the society's publications, web content, and other projects for AMA/AP/in-house style, content, and accuracy. I collaborated with volunteer physician editorial boards to enhance the society's membership communications and create content. I ran two annual editorial board meetings with key opinion leaders in the field, creating agendas, and following up on topics discussed. I managed staff both on and off-site. I traveled, domestically and internationally, to medical conferences, where I supervised an onsite team, creating and editing content for daily newspapers (known as "dailies") on tight deadlines. I oversaw video productions of upward of 15 interviews per day onsite at medical conferences with leading innovators in the field of ophthalmology. In this role I achieved 10 years in ophthalmology reporting, writing, and editing.
