UK GovernmentLead Business Architecture Consultant
Feb. 2015 - May. 2016United KingdomDeclan led a team building a "To Be" business architecture for a directorate in UK Government. The customer had a history of delivering software that required re-work costing millions due to poorly articulated business needs. Moreover, delivered software typically required ad hoc, supplementary spreadsheets to hold data that could not be handled by new systems. Using Agile principles and the Zachman Framework, Declan and his team worked with stakeholders, from executive to caseworker level, to iteratively develop and test models of how the business should be operating to realise its strategic goals, while challenging the value of legacy practices. This allowed the business to validate and continuously refresh its product backlog and ensure business needs were clearly articulated. This work was done in concert with Pega and Documentum software development sprints to ensure that relevant, tested, business knowledge was brought to the sprints, so that developers and testers could focus on delivering the right software rather than investigating the business need. In addition, Declan mentored business stakeholders and analysts in business architecture principles and methods. Key modelling techniques used:
Decision modelling, data modelling, process modelling (BPMN), event modelling, capability modelling, strategic goal modelling
