Metro AreaObama Administration political appointee assigned to the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) to monitor and analyze both internal and external policies regarding special education, vocational rehabilitation and other OSERS priorities. Proposed, developed, and managed programs that promoted a positive outcome for students with disabilities to the Assistant Secretary including the "Project SEARCH" internship program, "Know It 2 Own It" video blog, White House 40th Anniversary of IDEA (see examples below). Worked across offices and agencies to ensure that all programs and events were inclusive and accessible to students with disabilities. Planned and coordinated logistics for more than fifty programs and special events for the Department and the White House including the “Let’s Read! Let’s Move!” (LRLM) summer series, a sub-initiative of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign. Managed the planning and overall logistics of 31 events that reached 4,500 children ages 3-7 in the DC metropolitan area. Identified and worked with iconic venues such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Air and Space Museum, and the Library of Congress, and engaged with program partners that included Target, YMCA, and the Corporation for National Community Service. Served as project lead for the U.S. Secretary of Education’s 2016 National Back-To-School Bus Tour Kick-off Event. Conducted outreach to local school districts and celebrities to perform at the block party style gathering. Solicited monetary and in-kind donations from outside organizations.
