National Insurance DepartmentDatabase Administrator/SAP Basis Administrator
Jun. 2002Frank Walcott Bldg, Culloden Rd, BridgetownWas sole DBA responsible for administering all SQL Server, Oracle and MaxDB databases. Responsibility now shared with my protege. Lead SAP security administrator responsible for creation/management of most roles/profiles. Resolved issues arising out of data migration from legacy system to SAP, including maintenance of data conversion programs. Sole administrator for Kronos Workforce Timekeeper, including system optimisation/backup, case management and support contract management. Also administrator for punch data collection system. Here employee punches are transferred from machines, across the LAN, to the Kronos database. Single-handedly recovered SAP BW database after data file corruption due to power outage/faulty UPS. Learnt how to retrieve/load backups from tape. Worked incessantly (untrained) with SAP Germany/India to migrate an overwhelmed SAPDB 7.3 database to MaxDB 7.6 on obsolete SPARC 64/Solaris 9 OS. Worked around the clock at the office to fix the issue. Learnt how to create Solaris users/groups, etc as a result. Resolved massive Oracle data corruption stemming from SAN disk failure. Used initiative and own funds to engage SAP reporting providers at major conference. For 7 years prior, NID couldn't generate useful financial reports from within SAP R/3. Using strategy to solicit buy-in from major stakeholders, I was able to provide the company with a simple, affordable, Excel-based alternative. Since then the Board was able to get useful, comprehensive, timely reports with minimal human effort. Implemented said system, including drafting support contract with legal department and setting up training. System lasted for 10 years without issue, replaced only because a subsequent SAP upgrade made it unnecessary. Responsible for reviving separate support contracts for Workforce Timekeeper and hand-punch systems. They had lapsed due to a chronic staffing shortage.
