Federal Reserve BoardFederal Contractor, Collection Management + Library Infrastructure
Jun. 2018 - Oct. 2019Washington D.C. Metro AreaMy primary role as a member of both the Collection Development and Infrastructure teams at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve was to evaluate and process the research library’s shelved and digital collections. My collection management duties included developing criteria and processes for evaluation and material management, assessing serials, monographs, and Federal Documents across collections, making, presenting, and executing informed recommendations for deselection and renewal to the Board’s data and research librarians, and sourcing and presenting print and digital resources for acquisition based on relevance to the research library’s collection and the needs of our patrons. When material was slated for off-site storage, I managed the logistical and physical aspects of that process. Deselected material is offered to other Federal libraries prior to withdrawal, which is a process that I manage and document. I handled all intellectual and physical aspects of my role and work independently as part of a larger unit and documented my findings and progress for future reference. I performed cataloging duties by way of applying quality control processes to and updating bibliographic records to facilitate organization and access through records assessment and creation, updates, and suppression as needed based on individual item disposition. I performed copy-cataloging and call number assignment duties as material is folded into the collection. I processed over 27,000 volumes 40,000 titles and exceeded the research library’s goal of reducing the collection by one-third. Throughout the evaluation and material handling process, I developed and implemented an Excel-based documentation system in order to track the progress of the project. As needed, I provided access assistance to patrons via phone and in person and maintained communication with other Board divisions while addressing their information needs.
