Jul. 2021 - Mar. 2022Greater Seattle AreaAs the leader of a talented team of designers and producers at Microsoft, I directed the advancement of the company’s design language by partnering with product teams and collaborating with designers and studios around the world. Our focus was to enhance the company’s brand expression through product-led initiatives. Among these were projects such as a more modern and innovative illustration system, fostering deeper human connections through new emoji systems and reactions, and empowering customers to express themselves, and personalize their products through exciting new theming and personalization features. Additionally, I continued to direct user-experience films across Microsoft Office, Teams, Dynamics and other product families, and to craft public product stories in partnership with product and marketing teams.

Jan. 2019 - Jul. 2021RedmondAs part of the Microsoft Office design leadership team, I directed a large group of art directors, motion designers, 3D artists, writers, and producers within the Office Shared Design team. This team was responsible for a wide range of horizontal initiatives while also supporting vertical efforts across the broader design organization. In leading this work, we inadvertently expanded and refined Microsoft’s design language, Fluent Design. Our contributions included enhancements to UI components, motion and sound design, illustrations, icons, theming, color systems, and premium content such as fonts, wallpapers, and other imagery. Additionally, our team played a key role in unifying core aspects of the Office suite’s user experience across platforms, including Office.com, Office on Windows, macOS, and iOS. Several team members focused on shaping the design language and collaboration experiences across Microsoft products, including features like commenting and notifications across Office, the new collaboration tool Microsoft Loop, and adaptations of Office for emerging device form factors such as dual-screen devices like Microsoft Surface Duo. Beyond product design, we also crafted design narratives and curated Microsoft Design’s presence on social media, offering insights into our creative process and engaging the broader design community. This content, developed both in-house and in collaboration with design studios and artists worldwide, played a role in evolving Microsoft’s design identity into a more modern and expressive state.

In addition, I also co-led a massive rebrand effort of Office apps, which resulted in a multi-year effort to revamp of all brand icons across the company, and kickstarted a new video storytelling effort of office products, which ultimately led to how all of Microsoft tells products stories nowadays. May. 2013 - Dec. 2017RedmondIn my first role at Microsoft, I led all the aesthetic aspects of Windows Holographic from incubation to the final visual guidelines, which our team used to ship the developer (first) edition of HoloLens.
