Jan. 2019 - Jan. 2022United StatesI built and developed the entire application and infrastructure for an application that lets parents text absences to their children's schools as opposed to having to call the front office. The app is built around a natural language processing (NLP) chatbot that responds to parents in real time, just like a real person. Find out more at https://www.schooldispatch.co/

Lead Developer/Project Manager
5 StonesLead Developer/Project Manager
Jul. 2016 - Jul. 2017Greater Chicago AreaI managed the 5 Stones team developing FORMED.org, a video/audio/print content-streaming platform with over 290,000 users at the time. My responsibilities included managing a scalable team of 3-5 developers, designing and specifying robust solutions to new feature requests (most recently content-usage analytics data storage/utilization and a customer content management interface for FORMED.org), handling live production site issues at the database, server, and third-party integration level for minimal customer impact, interfacing with client leadership on-demand (usually multiple times per day), and collaborating with a cross-discipline team spanning marketing, graphic design, customer service, and engineering. 5 Stones has a variety of clients with many different technological needs. I worked across all of them from time-to-time and I gained exposure to many different types of languages, frameworks, and services in my time there. My main focus with FORMED.org was Javascript utilizing a MEAN (MongoDB, Express, AngularJS, Node.js) stack. Other languages include PHP and python, and other services/technologies I have experience in include AWS EC2, ECS, IAM, Route 53, S3 (both through the console and CLI), Microsoft Azure, Docker, MySQL, and many others.

5 StonesFull Stack Web and Software Developer
Jul. 2015 - Jul. 2016Sycamore, ILI designed, developed, and maintained components of websites and web apps as part of a Catholic not-for-profit agency that provides solutions for other Catholic apostolates and content-creators. This included working with many programming languages (Javascript, HTML, CSS, PHP, Python, SQL, etc.) and frameworks (Symfony, KeystoneJS, etc.) to implement new features, fix bugs, and delight customers on websites and web apps such as FORMED.org, an online content-streaming service, and LighthouseCatholicMedia.com, an e-commerce platform. My normal project flow for external clients included assisting in need/desire articulation (what is the desired behavior or need to be filled), conceptualizing possible solutions, compiling and delivering time estimates of different options, and effectively executing the client-chosen plan-of-action to stay within time and budget. I was constantly challenged to pick up new skills thanks to the wide array of diverse projects my team worked on. Every day I collaborated with a driven multidisciplinary team spanning marketers, graphic design, customer service, and engineering to help our clients achieve and exceed their goals.
Thermal Engineer
MicrosoftThermal Engineer
Aug. 2013 - Jul. 2015Redmond, WashingtonI developed thermal systems for Microsoft Surface family of products by making sure that the hardware, firmware, and software all work together to ensure the best user experience from a thermal perspective. I took over after the initial prototype was complete and "productized" the design by running a large variety of tests, by collaborating with software, mechanical, and electrical engineers to solve bugs, and by meeting schedule milestones in the product development cycle. My largest project was designing and implementing an automated thermal testing system for Surface tablets. This included launching user scenarios remotely, querying and logging internal sensor values, interfacing with multiple data acquisition systems to gather external touch temperature and total system power consumption data, controlling thermal chambers to change ambient conditions, and automatic data reduction and report generation at the end of the test. All of this required program writing in LabVIEW, Excel VBA, and C#. This system cut ~10 hours of full time work prepping and supervising tests down to ~0.5 hours of prep before letting the test run (usually overnight) unsupervised. The results were a larger test sample size each design iteration and greater time efficiency, both of which continue to aid in making the Surface family of tablets the "coolest" and most productive machines on the market.

Rockwell AutomationSales Engineer Intern
May. 2012 - Aug. 2012Burr Ridge, ILI uncovered ~$55,000 in opportunity for the company while completing 122% of the sales call goals for the internship. Along with learning the principles of Customer-Centric Selling I presented 7 product updates for various customers and distributors.
Manufacturing Engineer Intern
John DeereManufacturing Engineer Intern
May. 2011 - Aug. 2011I was working in the press brake area of the factory designing 3D simulations of how to bend parts from flat CAD files for the operators of the press brakes. By designing over 100 of these simulations, I eliminated potentially $12,000/year of waste from user error. I also participated in multiple efficiency improvement projects including a pivoting table for 15-ft. press brake dies and workstation simplification for each operator.
