Feb. 2017 - Apr. 2017Europe (Portimão in Portugal) to South America (Cayenne in French Guiana)Atlantic crossing speed challenge, 4 Nations team rowing from Europe (Portimão in Portugal) to South America (Cayenne in French Guiana). The distance is approximately 3,300 nautical miles (6,100 kilometers). We are aiming to break the world record for a mainland to mainland crossing, the current world record stands at 50 days, 10 hours and 36 mins. Our goal is to complete the crossing in as few as 45 days. To achieve this we will be rowing in a 2hrs on 2hrs off watch rotation and using the Rannoch 45 prototype rowboat (http://www.rannochadventure.com/boats-2/r45.html). The conditions on board are harsh, which means “back to basics” we will be put to the ultimate test, encountering nature at its best and worst. During the crossing, we will experience extreme weather, painful saltwater sores, blisters on the hands, strong winds, storms and waves of ten meters high. On board, there is no room for comfort: no shower, no toilet and limited possibilities to cook. We live on a diet of high-calorie freeze-dried food packages and snacks. The rowers drink water generated by the water maker on board. Sleeping happens together in a cabin that is even smaller than a single bed! Having never rowed before this is a monumental experience which will be both a physical and mental challenge.

The race then continues around the north of Scotland to Den Helder before its final stop in London.
