Since 2003, the Melbourne Art Foundation has distributed over AUD $1M in artist fees and grants, and facilitated an estimated AUD $70M in contemporary art sales at Melbourne Art Fair. With the endorsement of the Art Galleries Association of Australia (AGAA) the Fair continues to be a seminal fixture on the Australasian cultural calendar, stimulating critical and commercial attention for artists for over 35 years. The Foundation owns and produces the 36-year-old Melbourne Art Fair, a seminal fixture on the annual Australasian cultural calendar. A progressive forum for contemporary art and ideas, Melbourne Art Fair serves as a platform to stimulate critical and commercial attention for galleries and their artists, showcasing work by new and iconic artists and connecting them with institutions, collectors and arts enthusiasts. Additionally, the Melbourne Art Foundation co-produces the Melbourne Design Fair. A biennial event and the first of its kind in the region, Melbourne Design Fair is produced in partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria and brings together designers, commercial galleries, design agencies and organizations for the presentation, promotion, and sale of collectible contemporary design.
