Jan. 2015Xanthi, GreeceGreece currently has six American Spaces throughout the country: the Sparti American Space at the Central Public Library in Sparta, the Veria American Space at the Central Public Library in Veria, the Corfu American Space at the Central Public Library in Corfu, the Athens American Center (former IRC) at the American Embassy, Xanthi American Space at Xanthi Municipal Library Center in Xanthi and Piraeus American Space at Municipal Library. With the exception of AAC, all remaining Spaces are transformed from the traditional “Corner” concept that focused on English-language materials and programs headlined by visiting American officers into maker spaces that teach youth STEM skills, english language programs, informed about U.S. studies etc. The new spaces are also designed to function as platforms promoting the Mission’s ICS goal of combatting youth unemployment. My occupation is to managing and facilitating American Space in Xanthi. I am responsible for organizing projects concerning coding, 3D printing, robotics, soft skills, and entrepreneurship. Cooperating with youth local community, promoting American culture and public diplomacy. Our goal is to use creative techniques and give extra skills to our students and our local youth.
