Smucker Insurance Services LLCOwner / Broker
Nov. 1997 - Jun. 2010Wisconsin, United StatesLaunched and expanded a small independent insurance firm with a book of business: $3,500,000 investments, $100,000 personal insurance, and $1,500,000 commercial property & casualty insurance premiums. Served as an Insurance Broker, built and maintained business relationships and demonstrated proficiency in business to business as well as business to consumer marketing. Elaborating on this role, I studied several broker appetites and insurance company appetites and underwriting guidelines while functioning as the communication liaison and intermediary between insurance brokers, carriers, and clients to gather information and investigate each client's risk profile, insurance needs, and suitability with carriers. Reviewed and analyzed clients' information to match proper coverage and strive to reduce losses by mitigating risks to improve profits. Participated in insurance company/broker coursework involving: building valuations, business income coverages, coinsurance, occurrence liability vs claims-made liability, boiler & machinery, crime coverages, umbrellas, excess liability, workers compensation, business automobile, inland marine, and nonstandard risks, etc. Joined, participated actively, served through various chairmanships, and ultimately served as President of a local insurance agent professional association (NAIFA.ORG). My services included public speaking, educational programming, community service, newsletter, and association programs. The organization existed for 60+ years and I was the first President to serve two terms.
