Credit KarmaContent Designer Core Product
Oct. 2018 - May. 2020San Francisco, California, United StatesI was the first hire of the first director charged with building a content design team (then called "Product Writing") at Credit Karma. I was the conversation designer for Penny, CK's financial assistant bot. I was responsible for natural language processing, regular expression and natural language understanding, conversation design and development, writing in code, and understanding and using interaction analytics about conversations to improve them. After successfully launching and developing Penny experiences across product areas, I was brought in to lead design of the new front-door "Stories" experience. I worked with a small set of cross-functional teams researching, developing, designing, testing and experimenting in a highly visible and contentious central feeder space for all of CK's product stakeholders. Breaking velocity records for shipping product and learning, we managed to ship a front door solution that used improved discovery, diversified and grew revenue substantially, and helped CK turn a corner as a company. When the pandemic happened, I led design on the award-winning Relief Roadmap project, a cross-vertical, company-wide effort to help our users manage the financial crisis of the pandemic.
