- Managing and taking responsibility for the day-to-day activities
- Safe operation & maintenance of the concentrator plants
- Legal responsibility (appointed 2.13.1, incl. Mine Health & Safety Act, COP’s, SANS, SABS and all relevant plant policies & procedures)
- Managing the planning department (people, tools, offices, layout)
- Managing the maintenance system (maintenance framework, work planning & control)
- Complying to the stores and procurement department’s requirements
- Identifying business risks via risk log and implementing mitigating actions (HIRA principles)
- Managing safety, health & environmental risks via Behavior Based Safety principles and systems (e.g. ISO 18000, ISO 14001, ISO 9000, Safety programs (Lotus 123), etc.)
- Involved in strategic planning sessions - Managing 85 permanent employees and contractors on a maintenance, project and shutdown basis - Project Management (planning, making capital applications, managing budgets, allocating and controlling resources, managing stakeholder relationships and vendors)
- Budget & forecast management
- Asset management, focus on installation standards, house keeping standards and asset optimisation
- Vendor and contractor management
- Effective shutdown management Notable Achievements
- Manage engineering availabilities of 95%, reduction in downtime, call outs & overtime
- Implementing an effective planning department
- Standardise equipment specifications and installation standards
- Manage capital risk spares to reduce downtime
- Resolve security issues around the plants
- Project improvements on plant such as upgrade magnetic separators, conveyor upgrades
- Established procurement contracts with major role players to fix labour and spares cost (Weir pumps, ceramics, rubber lining, etc.)
