bpProduct Design Lead
May. 2021 - Oct. 2022RemoteI helped bp break down silo walls between Design, Tech and Product by enabling empowered product teams within one of its global b2b services. Establishing a vision, team structure, and product strategy has been vital but is worth nothing without great human beings who can thrive in a cross-functional environment. And I'm proud to say that I've enjoyed finding and working with the most fantastic designers across SD, UR, UI, UX and Content. I live and breathe collaborative design and believe in acquiring the best humans for the best teams to make the best products and services. Historically I'm an end-2-end experience designer, who has gravitated towards Strategic Product Design and most recently led (supported) teams and the design operation, bringing disciplines together and calibrating the product operation by ironing out dual-track agile issues. Basically, getting tech, design and product working together and keeping the wheels turning through discovery and delivery.

Apr. 2020 - May. 2021RemoteI lea the UX for the live chat channel that was transitioning to a chatbot. As well as driving change to the interface, I helped shape strategies around containing queries without live agent escalation by directing customers to digital journeys or content. I also created a service design – helping to retain customers where the bot looks up deals for those who wished to cancel a service. Other achievements included: • Driving the team and the organisation forward using MIRO to remain effective whilst working virtually. • Looking at smart ways to segment customers to funnel them faster. • Using Natural Language Understanding (NLU) to triage a customer's problem. • Using NLU to train the bot AI to get better matches to customer problems. • Split testing interface and copy variants to improve conversion. • Led a mixed-disciplined team to conduct brand research and design for the look and feel of 'Cosmo's face – using quant and qual to test the brand. • Usability testing the new UI – overseeing the implementation of it by ‘Nuance’. • Overall digital conversation strategy and design principles for chatbot features based on Value Proposition Design techniques.

Oct. 2018 - Mar. 2020Leicester, United KingdomI was involved in all aspects of user experience. Such as user needs research, behavioural science & cognitive science-based usability testing (in a custom-built onsite usability lab), data analytics and user interface design, including final visual design and finesse. Some of my responsibilities have included: • Running Design Sprint workshops to discover, design, test and learn from ideas in just four days. • Delivering a self-serve moving premises journey saving the business £400k pa. • Using monthly analytics to continually improve user journeys and conduct split tests to fine-tune conversion rates. • Using personalisation to target users with relevant content. • Running and teaching Design Thinking workshops, Growth Sprints, Discovery, Mapping and Content Strategy sessions. From Dec ‘19 to Jan ’20, we ran Design Sprints at scale. The business shifted from delivering outcomes to working on problems. This was born from seeing the fantastic results a Design Sprint strategy achieved when I ran one with a team from Industrial and Commercial Energy. I advised on setting up Mixed Disciplined Teams (MDTs) and how to keep the development wheels turning as we moved through concurrent cycles of discovery, define, design and deliver. I was running a Design Sprint every other week for almost four months.

Jul. 2015 - Oct. 2018Birmingham, United KingdomI was onboarded to lead a technology efficiency drive to make their desktop systems accessible on smartphone and tablet devices. Some of those main achievements included: Initiating the design and implementation of a Design System, giving us consistency across all products and speeding up development time. Creating a centralised ‘to do’ list that would surface tasks from all systems as well as overhauling other systems for transaction processing, digitising post, document approval, templated mail merging and reporting tools. Designing global navigation that every system could hang off - this saved clicks and did away with a launch portal. Being integral to unifying various stakeholders (users, senior management, partners, technical heads, project managers and product owners) to gain backing for the new designs. The new centralised task list dramatically changed the behaviour of users and increased efficiency firm-wide. I took great care to be sympathetic to some aspects of the old world so that the users found the new world to be a natural progression. The decision on what to retain for familiarity was aided by understanding the overall process through user consultation.

Jun. 2014 - Jul. 2015Leicester, United KingdomNext had a directive to overhaul their instore systems. I was brought in to lead the UX / UI drive primarily involving a new touch screen till system which expanded to other sales, banking and HR applications across multiple platforms. - Unified the experience between 3 distinct hardware interfaces; touch screen tills, hand held terminals and a desktop/mobile site. - Implemented a UI style library that drove consistency and efficiency between the sprint teams. - Worked closely with stakeholders, users and analysts to understand the drivers for the range of actions undertaken on the till system. - Led a team of four that provided design blueprints to sustain 30 developers across multiple sprints. Every scenario that could take place between a customer and till operative was streamlined. Ultimately this put a higher rate of cash flow through the till. Shaving valuable seconds off sales and returns and minutes off ordering and collections.

Dunelm (Soft Furnishings) LtdUX / UI Designer
Feb. 2014 - Jun. 2014Syston, EnglandDunelm’s ecommerce was spread across two dedicated sites for desktop and mobile, they needed a responsive website to give a consistent experience on every screen size. I was hired for my experience with ecommerce and responsive design. - Did competition research to uncover the best way to re-chunk the product categorisation. - Worked on solutions for the main product navigation and presented ideas to business stakeholders for proposal buy in. - Ramped up the checkout to offer click & collect and delivery comparisons, whilst checking availability and not compromising between screen real estate. - Oversaw the integration of third party review software which would boost sales conversions - trained management to upkeep the software. I created a design convention that worked with the planned sprints, so the site could be broken down into components. Each component was created in a wide, medium and narrow format and included interaction states. This ensured the developers had a complete visual plan for the build and the testers understood every option in the scenario scripts.
