Karolya (KV) Vargscarr
Regional Director, Manitoba @NPower Canada

Boozhoo! Karolya indizhnikaaz, KV indigoo, Hutniak Vargscarr doodem. Grand Rapids indoonjiba, Winnipeg noongom. My name is Karolya Hutniak Vargscarr, but you can call me "KV". In English I use they/them pronouns and in Ukrainian I use вона/її. I am a white Settler living on Treaty No. 1 Territory, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I began this section with my personal introduction in Ojibwe, or Anishinaabemowin, which is a traditional language of the place where I live, and which was systemically outlawed in Canada up until very recently and is now making a powerful resurgence. I learn Anishinaabemowin for many reasons - an important one is that I am an auntie to Anishinaabe youth. I always want to be worthy of their respect, and I know that I do that by leveraging my privilege to push for social change. We moved frequently throughout my childhood, so I grew-up in multiple rural communities in Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and Western Ontario including Brokenhead, Grand Rapids, Fort Simpson, Kenora, and Fort Frances. I am an inclusive workforce development leader with more than 15 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector, and I am passionate about people and relationships. I transform lives through tech in my work with NPower Canada as Regional Director for the province of Manitoba, and I am Co-founder and Partner of a national REDI (Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) consulting firm called Collective Consulting - a company comprised entirely of women and gender-diverse professionals from across Turtle Island. I serve the Epic Opportunities Board of Directors as its REDI specialist and support its vision an inclusive community for all, in which everyone has access to holistic supports and opportunities to contribute. My passion is Reconciliation and decolonizing Management through Settler and Newcomer education. I strongly believe that a return to Indigenous knowledge and frameworks will make life and work better for everyone.More...
