The Senior Flying Instructors Department of UK Field Army Aviation responsible for training, standards and theatre qualification of all Army Air Corps operational aircrew in all theatres on 3 helicopter types, (Gazelle, Lynx AH7 and AH9 and Bell 212). Specific responsibility for Bell 212 operations. Theatres of operation included Brunei, Belize, Bosnia, Canada, Cyprus, Germany, Kenya, Kosovo, the Middle East and the UK. Jan 99 - May 01. Gutersloh Germany. Operations Officer, Second in Command and subsequently Officer Commanding 651 Squadron AAC followed by 1 year as the Regiment Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Officer. This period included exercise deployments to Denmark, Poland and the UK as well as within Germany. Maintained A2 QHI currency on Lynx and Gazelle. Operated as an Aviation Liaison Officer at Brigade, Division and Allied Rapid Reaction Corps Headquarters level. Mar 98 - Jan 99. Middle Wallop UK. Instructed operational conversion students on Gazelle and Lynx. Converted new pilots from the Squirrel and refreshed pilots returning to flying duty. Awarded A2 (H) QHI Category. Feb 96 - Mar 98. Aldergrove Northern Ireland. Responsible for the training and maintenance of aviation standards in a squadron of 54 resident and rotational aircrew operating in the internal security and counter-terrorist environment. Specialised in surveillance operations. Sep 93 - Feb 96. Instructed on all helicopter phases of the British Army Pilot Course. Dec 78 - Aug 93. Germany, UK, Northern Ireland, Canada, Middle East, Kenya, Europe. Army Air Corps Soldier, Aircrewman Observer, Aircrewman Gunner, Pilot and Aircraft Commander. Travelled and deployed extensively on exercises and operations. Saw the fall of the Berlin Wall, took part in the first Gulf War and generally did my bit for Queen and Country.
