PopSockets LLCDirector of International Business
Oct. 2015 - Sep. 2016PopSockets LLC is a Boulder-based company that designs and manufactures mobile accessories. Its central product, the PopSocket, is a phone grip and stand that is collapsible, customizable, and re-positionable. PopSockets also serve as earbud-management systems. The other main product currently sold by PopSockets LLC is the PopClip. The PopClip enables you to mount your phone to your dashboard, mirror, refrigerator, bed post, wall, or locker. Your PopSocket will snap easily into and out of your PopClip to enable hands-free viewing. The company was formed in 2012 when CEO David Barnett glued two buttons to his phone, in hopes that they would help keep his earbuds wrapped and neat. As odd as it looked, the idea worked. Barnett began experimenting with putting the buttons on plastic accordions, so that he could pop them out to provide a phone stand and grip. It was then that he realized he might have that fabled million-dollar idea. The first PopSocket was sold on PopSockets.com in January of 2014, and the company has since experienced a growth rate of 1,500% annually, almost exclusively through word of mouth. “When a product experiences this level of popularity, this rapidly, with essentially no advertising, one can only step back and ask whether it has the makings of a viral phenomenon,” says Barnett. In 2015, PopSockets made their debut in all Sam’s Club and T-Mobile stores in America, and they also made their way to stores in over twenty countries around the world, including a chain of retail stores in Japan, where PopSockets are called JoySockets. On January 15, 2016, two years after sales started, the company sold its millionth PopSocket. Contact hello@popsockets.com with any inquiries.
