These included credit risk predictive modelling, measuring and projecting customer lifetime value and working with partners to model and quantify the impact we had on their Mobile ecosystems. I Getting into the intricacies of the data and observing and studying the behaviours of our customers allowed me the fortunate position of developing an intuitive grasp of who our customers were and the nature of their lives. This has provided critical insights that helped drive our products to better fit the natural cadence of their lives. Represented the data teams in engaging with various partners and investors.

EskomJunior Engineer and established the operating unit's Data Science team

Dec. 2014 - Nov. 2015Cape Town Area, South AfricaMy role at Eskom was that of a Data Scientist/Engineer: As part of a team I developed an application that automates the process of data extraction, formats and cleans the data and performs statistical analysis on the data for the purpose of network planning, network optimisation and metering of Eskom electrical networks. This application reduced administration time by 80% and allowed for more accurate and reliable business and engineering decisions. The application allowed the end-user to build and load customer models and to obtain data-driven insights to better plan Eskom's electrical networks, investigate faults and prepare for short term contingency plans. Applied principle component analysis (PCA) to stats and tariff meter recordings to retrieve load profile data and to act as a form of dimensionality data compression. KMeans clustering on time series as well as dimensionally reduced data (vector represented principle components) for the purpose of customer segmentation and analysis using various tested and proven distance metrics. This introduced the business to customer centric business models in order to help understand customer activity and user specific load changes. This lead and prepared the business for customer specific tariff models through smart meter rollout.

Mar. 2014 - Nov. 2014Cape Town Area, South AfricaTraining Period: Major Engineering Works: My time in MEW was spent predominantly on site of the Stikland substation where a five year refurbishment programme is taking place. Exposure here included the installation of new line bay equipment as well as exposure to new technologies being implemented within Eskom. Customer Network Centre: Working at the Airport CNC (technical depot) exposed me to the customer side of electricity delivery where I learnt about distribution network faults, LV and MV, line construction, cable laying and substation switching and operation. My time here also afforded me the opportunity to learn about the difficulties faced by the residents in the Airport CNC area of service giving me a grass roots level understanding of what the customer desires and needs. Project Engineering: This design based job has given me the chance to work on new projects to be implemented within Eskom. I was the Project Engineer for the installation of a new recloser to facilitate the installation of a solar PV installation on a customer's premises. I am also co designing a new electricity reticulation project. Work at Eskom has given me not only design and technical experience, but also customer services, financial and project management experience.
