sales service of the company. (10 Workshop Personnel and 2 after sales technicians
reported to me).
Workshop Duties consisted of the following:
• Daily Management of the workshop
• Purchasing of capital equipment and consumables
• Managing Annual Budget of the Workshop
• Liaising with suppliers, customers and motor repair workshops.
• Technical issues regarding induction motors, direct current motors, variable
speed drives and transformers.
• Compiling technical reports to customers and end users.
Consultation included:
• Selecting motors and variable speed drives for various applications and type
of loads
• Analyzing motor vibration spectrums for defective bearings, rotor bar
problems, alignment issues etc.
• Commissioning of variable speed drive panels and soft starter panels.
• Warranty claims on the factory.
Being in this position for 5 years, I moved into the Sales Department. Apart from
technical issues which I still performed, the sales and commercial issues was added
to my portfolio.
• Customers included in my business plan were;
1. End-users
2. Large Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s)
3. Small to Large Electrical distributors
• Sales and commercial issues were dealt with from simple one item sales to
complex large projects. Projects up to R3,5M were managed.
• Pricing, stock and delivery were negotiated
• Commercial managers and buyers were also consulted.
