Feb. 2009 - Aug. 2012Washington D.C. Metro AreaManage pre/post earmark authorization and appropriations requests. Assist technology based businesses with securing early stage funding. Help defense/tech/development industry solve legislative, programmatic and regulatory problems. Coordinate research and development with government agencies. Set metrics for success. Analyze new issues, conduct research, write briefs and hearing statements. Consult and advise on new policy positions. Author amendments addressing the senator’s priorities. Amendments have covered prosthetic research, cyber security, wireless, logistics, technology transfer, defense funding, social media, foreign affairs, and PTSD/TBI among others. Participate in markup of legislation as designated staff for Senate Armed Services Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Including the FY09-FY13 National Defense Authorization Act. Develop key congressional staff, military, diplomatic, and industry relationships, and expertise in the federal budget process and the legislative process. Assist state level delegations with planning, coordinating, and executing "fly-ins" to Washington, D.C. Translating legislative, regulatory, and other policy changes for their consumption. Monitor and record proceedings in the U.S. Congress as a whole, and on the U.S. Senate and U.S. House floor.
