The business initially focused on consumptive fishing operations before strategically diversifying into sustainable aquaculture.
As part of this expansion, we undertook significant investment and growth initiatives within the aquaculture sector, becoming the only company globally focused on farming an indigenous regional species of tilapia native to Lake Tanganyika. This involved an extensive research and development programme aimed at establishing the long-term commercial viability and sustainability of the species.
Despite the strong operational progress and long-term potential of the business, a combination of severe economic instability, escalating financing costs, political uncertainty, and the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic ultimately created an unsustainable operating environment. As a result, the business was unfortunately unable to continue its growth trajectory.
