University of the Fraser ValleyAdjunct Professor of Biology
May. 2019Abbotsford, British Columbia, CanadaI am a naturalist and philosopher, always looking for beauty from the natural world. I feel in love with Science Communication during my PhD, and have found such satisfaction in writing and developing science-based content. My books are available in several languages worldwide, and my online series in biology (written and hosted by me) have garnered nearly 150 million views. My time is spent between teaching biology, ecology and science communication at the University of the Fraser Valley, shooting TV projects for the Science Channel/Discovery, going on expeditions to far corners of the world to find new species with @TaxonExpeditions, cruising and lecturing with @Viking and @Cunard about all things BIOLOGICAL! Lastly, I'm a proud mom of FOUR amazing kids. I consider it a privilege to be on this journey with them, and I'm excited to see where their own paths lead. My children have formed part of my work life (in writing WILD MOMS - the book and series), and I am proud to be a happy and cool mom. (I hope lol)
I am interested in collaborations involving Science Communication, and I am ALWAYS happy to accept financial donations for STEM Angels - we are leveling the academic playing field for women, one individual at a time. Thanks for reading!
