Upper Darby School DistrictTeacher
Oct. 2017 - Sep. 2020Upper DarbyAs classroom teacher, I use data (formal and informal) to drive my instructional practices. I differentiate my lessons to accommodate the needs of my English Language Learners, as well as my special needs students. As the primary English Language Arts teacher for two classes, I utilize technology for research purposes, and word processing skills. I believe in open communication between school and home and practice restorative practices within my classroom, through morning meetings and open dialogue. I am on several leadership committees at the school level: PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), the Operational Leadership Team, and the Diversity & Equity School Team. I currently serve as the chair person for the PBIS Team, responsible for oversight of school wide incentives and positive culture within the building. We plan our Student of the Month celebrations, stock our PBIS rewards and incentives store and monitor the climate within the building. Recently, we took close to 300 students to the Universoul Circus as a reward for positive behaviors within the school. We are planning an end of the year trip that will serve the same purpose: rewarding positive behaviors within the school. As a member of the Operational Leadership Team, I bring information to the team about the climate within the building and offer suggestions as to how to improve on student behaviors within the building or in certain locations. I also offer input concerning the daily operations of the building, such as attendance, counseling issues and teacher concerns. Within our district, we felt that each school needed a Diversity & Equity School Team to address some concerns within the building and community. As a member of that team, our primary goal has been to establish tone and trust between staff, students and parents. Ongoing discussions have been facilitated by the Equity team at faculty meetings to understand culture and its impact on educational equity.
