Jan. 1980Houston, TXInnovative chemical engineer with over 45 years of global experience in refining, gas processing, and water treatment. Widely recognized for developing and commercializing patentable chemical technologies that prevent corrosion, fouling, and degradation in amine, sour water, glycol, several refining and petrochemical applications, and steam generation systems. A pioneer in the introduction of fast acting oxygen-consuming formulations to amine systems in the 1990s, I helped transform the industry’s approach to corrosion control during the transition from MEA to MDEA solvents. This breakthrough enabled rapid oxygen removal—minimizing heat-stable salt (HSS) formation—and promoted in-situ magnetite (Fe₃O₄) film formation, providing significantly greater resistance to HSS-induced corrosion, even in systems with up to 10% salt content. Before this innovation, conventional iron sulfide (FeS) films offered limited and short-lived protection, quickly eroding as HSS levels increased. Building on my original 1998 patent, my continued research led to a 2025 patent of a next-generation fast-acting oxygen-consuming fouling and corrosion inhibitor. These inhibitors are engineered to react with oxygen substantially faster than previous formulations. Enhanced with two synergistic proprietary components, this new chemistry forms the basis of Complete System Protection (CSP)—a comprehensive program that simultaneously mitigates oxygen ingress, corrosion, fouling, and solvent degradation in amine circuits. As a holder of multiple international patents, I am able to bridge research, development, and field implementation, consistently delivering measurable improvements in plant reliability, safety, and environmental compliance across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. Currently, I am developing novel and patentable CCS and solvent reclaiming technologies. “Innovation is seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.” — Albert Szent-Györgyi
