Jan. 1995 - Dec. 1999Ms. Askin led the development effort for the production of the first DVD set created by the Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Askin performed the analysis to implement the new DVD technology; at that time only CD’s were available and DVDs presented new challenges not previously encountered in both cost, capacity and management. Ms. Askin then developed the Document Delivery for Windows application which allowed users to view and manage the content of the DVDs. This application was installed on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, USAPat and USAMark weekly CD-ROM issues. DocDW displayed, printed, exported and manipulated the images. DocDW supported two types of installations, restricted, for The Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries, and Open, for the general public. Ms. Askin coordinated efforts to implement an asynchronous Faxback subsystem, and designed and developed its components. A Request/Admin server to input request and monitor system progress. A Response Server that monitored for incoming jobs, processed them, sent requests to a Jukebox Server and after receiving a reply, passed the job to the corresponding output server. A Conversion server to process the images from TIF to PCX. A Fax Server for G3 and G4 type faxes to receive and manipulate the incoming jobs and spawn a DOS job to fax the requests. The system was designed using Clipper 5.0 and Borland C for a Novell environment. This system was housed at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is used daily.
