The main solution is “Dynamic SIM Management” (DSM) that comprises all major productised software components from Comptel. DSM aims at increasing customer satisfaction by dynamically rolling out new services to SIM cards in the field with little or no need to configure the services before the SIM cards are taken into use. It also reduces costs by optimising the logistics chain of delivering SIM cards to end users.

The projects include a messaging content capture system for Qatar Telecom (QTel) and a billing system for an emerging IP telephony operator in Finland. I mainly act as a lead developer interfacing with the customer and the team to fully communicate the customer requirements and priorities.

Besides supporting the Message Router this work has included various smaller tasks from fixing bugs in deployed products, solving problems in the wireless browsing and MMS charging proxy. I also participated in setting up the High Availability (HA) solution for QTel IT department.
Other work has included some customer specific interfaces, a Technical Service Manager role for MTC Touch, Lebanon and a similar role for the TETRA solution at Dubai police.
Lastly I have been acting as an IT support person in the Dubai office by for example setting up an internal file server for convenience, VPN connections to customers and by helping resolve any miscellaneous computer problems that have occurred.

I was involved with the development of our MMS offering from the very beginning. The product development was launched after the proof-of-concept related to my thesis work was sold as one of the first functional MMS servers in the world. The product went through a lot of phases before reaching maturity and is now deployed at 50+ Mobile Operators globally and has delivered millions of messages.
In spring of 2005 I and a small team of testers were tasked with doubling the performance of the MMS Router on a given hardware within a month. The project ended up producing a performance multiplier of nearly 2.5 on time and under budget.
Support Engineer
First Hop support is based on a voluntary rotation of support shifts during non-office hours. I regularly volunteered for the service and gained first-hand insight into the problems encountered by our customers.

I acted as a technical consultant for several customers during this period. The work included training, troubleshooting, performance optimisation, development support and technical planning. Many times I was chosen for the job because I had knowledge of the High Availability solution or because of my experience with performance tuning customer systems.

Projects normally consisted of some customisations made on top of an off-the-shelf product that the company represented in Finland. The company also provides it’s own solutions for project management in specific fields and for supporting sensory analysis. My duties as a developer included technical analysis, design, implementation and testing of customisations and also some stand-alone solutions.
