Washing samples, picking of benthic foraminifera and classification between the different taxa. Recognition of 3 taxa : Nuttallides Truempyi, Oridorsalis Umbonatus and Cibicidoides. Supervisor : Dr.Philip Sexton July to September 2017 (3 months) Study of the initiation of the Indian Monsoon from 10 Ma and onward (IODP expedition 353, sites U1447 & U1448). Bulk geochemistry. Removal of inorganic carbon and biogenic silica. Picking of planktonic foraminifera and its taxonomy. Oxygen isotope and trace elements analysis. Cleaning methods for foraminifera before geochemistry analysis. Supervisor : Dr.Pallavi Anand Preparation of foraminifera for trace elements and oxygen isotopes measurements: cleaning method for foraminifera and ICP-MS procedure. Supervisor : Dr.Marcus Badger October 2017 to February 2018 (5 months) Project investigating the drivers of the Asian Monsoon variability by using a large ensemble of PLASIM-GENIE simulations. Definition of paleo-geographic input files that define changing in land-sea masks, ocean gateways and ice-sheets. Supervisors : Dr.Philip Holden and Dr.Pallavi Anand March to May 2018 (3 months, upcoming work) Preparation of statistically representative splits of deep-sea sediment samples to conduct analysis of % fragmentation of foraminifera in the equatorial Atlantic, Southern Ocean and Pacific Ocean (Sites 662, 1090 and 806).
