Biotechnology Industry OrganizationManaging Director, Marketing & Membership
Jan. 2003 - Dec. 2013At the world's largest global trade association for biotech, academic institutions, and related organizations, I partnered with the VP to revitalize global recruitment, retention functions, and the overarching marketing strategy following a complete team transition. Leading a team and managing an $80K budget, I spearheaded initiatives encompassing rebranding, dues restructuring, and enhancing event visibility. • Strategic Revenue Growth: Drove a 67% increase in membership dues revenue—from $14M to $23.5M in 8 years—by executing a multi-pronged strategy focused on recruitment, retention, rebranding, and enhanced member value delivery. • Organizational Rebranding: Unified, fragmented departmental brands through a 3-year, cross-functional initiative with executive buy-in and external consultants. Launched a cohesive new identity at the 2008 convention, boosting visibility and alignment. • Team Building & Talent Optimization: Built and led a high-performing team through role alignment and talent development. Accelerated membership growth and revenue gains over 5 years through strategic hiring and structure. • Crisis Management: Produced a polished 10x10 booth from concept to completion in under 2 weeks by resolving design issues quickly. Elevated BIO’s membership brand presence and built early internal credibility. • Organizational Culture: Established a Director’s Group to improve communication and cohesion below VP level, resulting in increased director satisfaction per internal surveys and creating a lasting structure for peer connection and executive access. • Brand Repositioning: Transformed BIO’s perception from conference organizer to full-service industry association by launching a cross-departmental showcase at the annual convention, amplifying visibility of policy and member services to 20K+ attendees.
