Mar. 2019 - Jul. 2019Ellwood Butterfly PreserveButterfly's Lament, a collaboration filmed on location at Ellwood Bluffs and Butterfly Grove, choreographed and directed by Robin Bisio: https://vimeo.com/335020390 Ellwood Butterfly Grove has served as a layover stop for monarch butterflies on their annual migration north. Each year, thousands of #monarchs gather among the boughs of the eucalyptus trees to perch, nap, and gain strength to continue their journey. Yet prolonged drought has caused many eucalyptus trees in the grove to die out, making it necessary for butterflies to search for new stops on their passage. Butterfly's Lament honors these creatures and expresses some of the joy, gratitude, and grief they (we) might feel in connection to this land and its transformations. With dancer Anna Carnes @annamagdalena, the film was directed and choreographed by Robin Bisio @robinbisiofilms, camera and edit by Nik Blaskovich @nikblasko. Photos are taken on set at Ellwood Bluffs by Arna Bajraktarević @studioarna. Music by @jenniferterran. Hair by @arma65. Costume by Anaya Cullen @anayacullendesign.

RADIO CHANNEL is the first official music video for electronic artist John Tejada. Tejada is one of the most celebrated names in the house, techno and tech house genres of electronic music. He has headlined major festivals all over the world and produced mixes for everyone from Cinematicpod to the prestigious Fabric Live series. Inspired by the relationship between artist and machine in the electronic music genre, and the flowing, ambient quality of the song, Radio Channel explores a fusion of light and dance. Award winning choreographer and dancer Tiffany Billings interacts with unique light pieces designed and built exclusively for the video by artist Neil Jansen. Radio Channel is directed and edited by David James Minick and produced by Shahrzad Ghadjar. Radio Channel will screen as part of the Experimental, Animation and Music Video showcase on November 15th, 7:00pm at the DCTV Center (87 Lafayette St. New York, NY 10013)

Tony and Emmy Award-Winner Tyne Daly to Perform at Ensemble Theatre Company's Gala Opening Celebration of The New Vic Theater... Stage and screen star Tyne Daly will perform at ETC's gala fund raising event, CURTAIN UP. Ms. Daly won the Tony Award for her performance as Mama Rose in the 1989 Broadway hit revival of Gypsy. Widely known for her work as Detective Mary Beth Lacey in the television series "Cagney & Lacey" and as Maxine Gray in the television series "Judging Amy," Ms. Daly has received six Emmy Awards for her television work. CURTAIN UP celebrates the completion of the New Vic Theater at 33 West Victoria Street on November 9, 2013. All proceeds for this event will support ETC's maiden season at its new home. As the only 300-seat theater in downtown Santa Barbara, the completed New Vic will be a wonderful new home for ETC and a flexible, intimate venue for other performing arts throughout the greater Santa Barbara area. ETC's is very grateful to Montecito Bank & Trust and committee co-chairs Leatrice Luria and Kandy Luria-Budgor for their support of this event. The stunning soon to be graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Lande Lo, was our dancer in a gorgeous dress by Anaya Cullen. Anaya was also our stylist. Ted Mills was director with Nik Blaskovich as cinematographer. Ted and Nik were going for a look that captured the old West feel of golden hills. My job on set was to work with Lande to bring my studio choreography to life while avoiding snakes, cow pies and rocks. It was not easy. Sep. 2011 - Oct. 2011Santa Barbara, California AreaAn original multimedia production about the life of Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, Starry Night was conceived and choreographed by celebrated New York choreographer William Soleau. He has created more than 80 ballets on companies around the world, including acclaimed State Street Ballet productions of Carmina Burana and Appalachian Spring. In Starry Night, Soleau uses an “audacious” structure for a highly dramatic effect that reviewers have called “refreshing in the chances it takes.” Video technology introduces 270 of Van Gogh’s paintings as the virtual canvas on which the dancers create nuances of color and movement. The story is told in Van Gogh’s own poetic words through extensive correspondence with his brother Theo, portrayed by actor Michael Daniels. These letters and Van Gogh’s striking artworks are the backdrop for a revealing look into one of the truly great artists of the Modern period. Musical selections in the ballet include works by Béla Bartók, Antonín Dvořák, Gabriel Fauré, Gerald Finzi, Alan Hovhaness, Andrzej Panufnik, Camille Saint Saëns, Dmitri Shostakovich, Antonio Vivaldi and Anton Webern.

Each event features original participatory installations and artist-designed experiences inspired by current exhibitions. In August, guests are treated to extraordinary performances and activities, including the Beautiful Destruction Multi-Media Dance Performance and Interactive Installation, the DeSTYLED Moments Studio and Pop-Up 80’s Dance Party, Insert Name Here One Man Show Collages, In Conversation (with yourself) Portrait Diptychs, and DJ and dance in the back plaza.
The event marks the eighth season of the ever-popular Nights that continue to inspire through time-based art, performance, and new media. These unique events offer a cultural cocktail of art, music, specialty martinis, and outrageous one-night-only interactive happenings in the Museum’s galleries. SBMA invites guests to view world-class art collections, socialize, and enjoy the creative play that redefines what it means to engage with art.
