Dr. Bethuel Sehlapelo brings more than thirty years of senior and executive management expertise in technology-driven organizations, following the completion of a PhD in Organic Chemistry. His extensive background spans across universities, industry, science councils, as well as both local and national government sectors. Leadership and Governance Throughout his career, Dr. Sehlapelo has been responsible for governance, strategic direction, and management oversight within various institutions. He has played a significant role in the development and implementation of policies and legislation focused on innovation and has contributed to the establishment of new scientific and technological research infrastructure. Research, Development, and Commercialization Dr. Sehlapelo’s experience also encompasses leadership in technology-based research and development projects aimed at commercial application. He has managed the licensing, piloting, and commercialization and transfer of technologies, and has cultivated both local and international partnerships to support these initiatives. Commercial Management He has carried direct responsibility for the commercial performance of technology- intensive enterprises, including serving as Managing Director of Rand Water Services (Pty) Ltd, which achieved an average annual turnover of R200 million. Additionally, he served as Executive Director of the CSIR’s Smart Places Cluster, overseeing an average annual turnover of R500 million Dr. SEHLAPELO has served on a number of boards as a non-executive member including, MINTEK (Council for Minerals Technology), (NNR) National Nuclear Regulator, TRT (Tshwane Rapid Transport Pty Ltd, CUT (Central University of Technology , as a Council member).
