Mount St. Joseph UniversityPrior Learning Assessment & Experiential Education Coordinator
Oct. 2019 - Aug. 2020Cincinnati, OHThis multi-faceted role works with both traditional and non-traditional students to help them earn their degrees while offering quality opportunities for experiential learning. I work in the following areas:
1) Prior Learning Assessment - helping students earn their required EXP credit through portfolio submission, validation of prior work or service experience, and direct award of credit. Mount St. Joseph University also prioritizes our veterans by clearing the majority of work listed on JSTs as general credit.
2) The Servant Leadership Scholars Program - this brand new experiential learning opportunity is 3 programs rolled into one. The Summer Employment Program offers our students employment opportunities during the summer semester at our area nonprofit community partners. The IMPACT Mentor Program works on personal and professional development with students from underrepresented groups. Students are paired with a mentor, and all pairs work individually and as a team to accomplish set goals. The Next Generation Board Member Program offers our junior and senior students the opportunity to learn about governance through participation as a junior board member. During their time with the organizations, students will also complete special projects to increase the organizations’ capacity.
3) Graduate Employment Survey - every year, after spring semester, I work with the most recent cohort of graduates to determine their career outcomes, plugging those seeking next steps in with the appropriate resources. This data is then generated into a report used by departments across campus.
4) Entrepreneurial Cooperative Education - I’m working as part of a team exploring what it would look like to best serve our students who are entrepreneurs by counting the running of their businesses for their required EXP credit.
