GALA specialises in education and movement building through archival work, activism, research and community building. GALA makes an important contribution to the achievement and development of the human rights of LGBTIQ+ people on the continent and to social justice broadly. Key responsibilities in this position included: Managing and coordinating national-level sensitivity training programmes focused on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) in collaboration with civil society organisations and universities. Increasing the overall understanding and awareness of gender and sexual diversity issues amongst school management and school communities in South Africa as a strategy of coalition building. Networking and collaborating with educators, The Department of Basic Education, activists, private organisations and NGO’s in order to successfully implement educational interventions. Fundraising for the organisation- Developing funding strategies and writing funding applications. Managing strategic projects, which involves leading and directing a team of facilitators to achieve strategic goals, organising human resources and facilities to achieve deliverables and the evaluation of the aforementioned. Creating spaces and opportunities for networking and coalition building amongst queer civil society and other stakeholders.
